Follow me in my attempt to make the ultimate "ESCAPE" from the ROCK!
Starting in the middle of the San Francisco Bay from Alcatraz, this is a 1.5 mile swim in frigid, shark infested water to the mainland. The Anglin Brothers and Frank Lee Morris attempted their escape from Alcatraz on the night of June 12, 1962, but were never found. Who knows where they are now? I'm about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime!
4-weeks to go! I should be filled with excitement, and I guess I AM, it's just that I've come down with a nasty little cold.
It happened quite suddenly Thursday evening. The day had been spent doing all of the things I LOVE; work, swim, time with my dog at the park, and finishing with a nice run. After having a great dinner with my favourite man, and relaxing on the couch, I suddenly was TIRED, ACHY and my THROAT was SORE. I swear it happened that fast.
The next 24 hours weren't pretty. Or the 24 following that. All I could do was sleep, wade through mountains of kleenex, and eat soup. When I woke up this morning, I was optimistic that I would be able to get back to training.....maybe.....tomorrow. Still experiencing most of the same symptoms as day 1 on day 4, I decided to pay my doc a visit. A Strep test was ordered and the advice of 'if you're feeling better tomorrow, get in the water, or ride, or do whatever you can.....if you want'. He knows me so well. BUT, I think I will hold off until I am REALLY feeling like I SHOULD be training again. I don't want this to linger, and really, it's better to be sick now than in San Fran! THAT WOULD REALLY SUCK.
So, I'm off to rest, hydrate and recover. Crossing all of my crossable parts that I wake up tomorrow feeling ready
