MEET THE OWNER
Kim Graham is the owner and founder of THRIVE TOTAL FITNESS in North Vancouver, BC. Her philosophy of achieving athletic balance through the training of body, mind and spirit comes from her 8 years of study in both Eastern and Western medicine. Kim's extensive training in these two medical modalities has given her an exceptional understanding of the human body, and a unique holistic perspective of how the body works. "Balance in all things", she believes, is the key to leading a healthy, happy life.
Kim's passion for fitness began with a pair of figure skates. As a child Kim was involved in competitive figure skating and from early on, it was apparent that she was a 'natural'. At competition, Kim consistently took home gold medals, progressed through her skating club in a few short years and became recognised by the club pros as an 'Olympic hopeful contender' for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta. This however would not come to pass. Kim's early accomplishments in figure skating inspired in her a desire to see others achieve, and in 1989 she began coaching children's learn to skate programs in Calgary, Alberta.
Years later, after moving to British Columbia, Kim's love for fitness was rekindled with a pair of running shoes. Running is 'in her blood' she says, and it has led her to compete and train for numerous races and distances from 100m sprints to full-marathons.
Over the years Kim's drive and motivation has had an infectious quality and as a result, she has trained many 'first-timers' to cross the finish line of their first race. More often than not, Kim has run beside most of them 'just to see their face' when they cross the finish line. Most recently, Kim has taken to the water, where she's always training for a new adventure! In 2012 she swam across the San Francisco Bay from Alcatraz in a race called "Sharkfest", and was part of a relay team for the "Bay Challenge" a 10km swim from Sandy Point in West Vancouver to Kitsilano in 2013. If you are ever at Ambleside in West Vancouver and see someone swimming laps in the ocean (especially in October and November), I can almost guarantee you, its her. You may even catch her dog Daisy swimming with her!
Kim has been teaching fitness classes since 2007 and holds national certification as a BCRPA Group Fitness Leader, and is a certified Yoga Fitness Leader through Red Door Yoga. Because her teaching style is so unique, people are typically hooked after their first class. She encourages you to come and experience what THRIVE TOTAL FITNESS is all about.
